"Welcome" Cake

It's been awhile since I made carnations. However, I was asked to make a cake with red, purple and white carnations for a co-worker. Her father is coming to visit from Australia and she wanted to have a "welcome" cake for him when he got here.

I made the carnations and thought that they just needed something extra so I added edible glitter to the petals. It looked great. The carnations shimmered. It almost gave the appearance of dew drops on the flowers.

The cake turned out beautiful and my co-worker and her dad loved it!

Twilight Birthday Cake

Okay, so this was my first time working with Choco-pan fondant. It was alot stickier and much harder to use, but it had much better flavor. The white wasn't quite as difficult as the black, but the black kept drying out and I had to keep steaming it to get it to form to the cake.

The chess pieces took longer to mold than I expected, and much longer to make than the flowers, but I liked them once they were done.

All in all, I think it turned out okay. Of course, I just look at the things I should have done differently, but the birthday girl loved it, so that's all that matters. :)
